Section Records returns after a hedonistic summer on the European festival circuit with a brace of hot releases to warm your cockles as the sun moves south.
Just ahead of their forthcoming full-length album on Section entitled “Argonautica”, Russian downtempo supremos Koan treat us to an impeccably composed and produced taster in the form of the future classic “Circe's Touch”. Named after the mythological sorceress Circe, who used her skills with herbs, drugs and magic potions to bewitch her enemies, and who was described in Homer's Odyssey as “The loveliest of all immortals”, the original edit of the track lives up this heritage with an ceaseless cascade of uplifting and beautiful melodies from start to finish. Koan are masters at telling a story in their music and conveying emotion and atmosphere, and this release is dripping with both.
Section has once again drafted in some of the best electronic producers out there to bring their interpretations to the table, and is releasing two packages with the original track included in the downtempo Vol 1, along with remixes from Asura and Krusseldorf. Vol 2 brings us dancefloor action from progressive man-of-the-moment Soundprank, label boss Nick Brennan, french progressive / techno producer Petit Ange and a tech-trance belter from Koan's side project, Roeth and Grey.

Vol 1 kicks off with the original edit which welcomes you with open arms into an ancient tale told in melodic twists and turns. The timeless theme constantly evolves throughout the track into yet another killer hook, keeping you guessing what's on the next page until the closing seconds. Their trademark warm bass sound is counterpointed by layer upon layer of sparkling synths and ethereal vocals, combining to tell a classic story in a future-classical way.
Ultimae artist Asura opens the remix floodgates on track 2 with a pristine, glistening rework which demonstrates this French chill-out star's production skills to full effect. Razor sharp synths meander through an infinite space above the lushest of sub basses, pure euphoria encoded in 1s and 0s.
Prolific Swedish producer Krusseldorf turns in a peaceful, cinematic production for his mix to close the first chapter of this release. Subtle glitched-up beats tickle the synapses while lush pads, retro synths and pianos play a gentle game of tag in an otherworldly playground.

Soundprank lives up to his reputation as one of the hottest properties on the progressive scene with his Reloaded rework, a top-notch prog monster with a darker edge than many of his recent remixes. The original elements have been chopped and resampled into a new recipe, best served hot in the middle of the night.
Nick Brennan drops another prog bomb for mix 2. Delicate gated and delayed staccato synths bounce around on a seductive rubber sub bass while the delicate beats drive you forward towards the drop, where the original theme jumps out for a few sweet seconds before we're blasted in crowd-pleasing style towards the finish line.
3rd up it's French up-and-comer Petit Ange. The peaceful intro gives no hint as to the hypnotic techno workout to come, minimal but complex at the same time. The pressure builds and builds until the blissful release of the breakdown, where we're recharged just in time for the reprise.
Closing the 2nd package just as they opened the first, the Koan boys are back in the form of their side-project Roeth and Grey. This time they deliver a solid slab of tech-trance, grounded in four-to-the-floor techno but frequently injected with melodic elements from the original to create a seductive blend which takes us out in style.
